ROANOKE CITY COUNCIL - WHAT ARE THEY DOING?

Monday's Roanoke City Council meeting begins with briefings at 9 AM at Addison Aerospace Middle School for a joint meeting with the Roanoke City School Board. Topics include an overview of the Promise of Roanoke and Initiatives for 2008-2009. Council briefings will follow in the Emergency Operations Center (ground floor of City Hall) Room 159 on the following topics:
1) Countryside - 2 hours
2) Art Program - 30 min.
3) Downtown Roanoke, Inc. Marketing Program - 20 minutes
Items of interest related to the 2PM Council meeting:
C-2 request for a public hearing for 8/18/08 at 7 PM on a deed for the new Cambria Suites site on Reserve Avenue
C-3 reqiest for public hearing on 8/18/08 at 7 PM on the authorization of General Obligation Bonds for various projects
C-4 letter stating the resignation of Stuart Revercomb as a member of the Economic Development Authority 5. presentation/annual report by Bill Carder with Downtown Roanoke, Inc.
6.2. endorsement of passenger rail (TDX) and related resolution connected with the Dept. of Rail & Public Transportation's recent rail study.


WOW - Many big issues to discuss. Why is a public hearing needed on Cambria suites? Carilion, Housing Redevelopment - many parties involved there.

Annual report from Downtown Roanoke Inc - that should be interesting.

Passenger Rail - now that is a cause I could get on board with!
